mark morford is at it again.
1. you don't talk like a normal person. only normal people talk like normal people. sarah "no questions please, i'm alaskan" palin, according to house minority leader john boehner, she talks like a normal person... if by "normal" you mean "chillingly antagonistic toward anything resembling progress or political insight or women's civil liberties."
if you want to read more, click anywhere on the paragraph above.
if you think any criticism of sarah palin is wrong-headed and makes you a bad person—while having secretly enjoyed the past 16 years of right-wing attacks on hillary rodham clinton (or having said nothing about it)—don't click anywhere on the text above, because mark morford doesn't pull any punches, and your delicate sensibilities may be bruised.
(i don't think the easily-bruised read my live journal, but i thought the caveat would be useful for any poor soul who got lost and stumbled across my musings... .)

He nails it, but do believe he is bit unfair to lovers of J.R.R. Tolkein's work.

I dread November 4th.

Good stuff, but I'm in agreement with [profile] pectopah about him being a bit unfair to J.R.R. Tolkien fans.

no more than he is to fans of j.k. rowling. i think the thrust is at mindless entertainments. tolkein's fan base has increased exponentially since the l.o.t.r. films, but i suspect the subset of that number interested in the literary merits of the books is minuscule. morford could as easily have subbed lewis in that sentence—and far more appropriately, given the fundamentalist love for the narnia books—faddish mindless reading is, after all, faddish mindless reading.

i think it's a minor point in an otherwise spot-on piece.
