alaska governor sarah palin will be republican john mccain's vice-presidential running mate, cnn confirms.

interestingly (at least to me), she and i were students at the university of idaho at the same time. i edited the campus paper while she would have been a sophomore; perhaps it was my leftist rag which drove her into the arms of the nra. and even though she majored in journalism, i don't recall her at all (the paper wasn't part of the department, but a stand-alone entity; most of the staff were not journalism folks).

i don't recall her at all; it's wholly possible our paths didn't cross. it's also very likely she'd have known of me (since i edited the school paper and was on a couple of high-profile campus committees), though there's no reason she'd remember me today.

interestingly, the alumni magazine did a profile on her earlier this year. i think i just threw that issue out.

She's the wrong generation from most of those fans, & she's fanatically pro-life. I could have seen McCain drawing some of those fans away by choosing Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson or former New Jersey Gov. Christie Todd Whitman - but not Palin.
