so yeah, i answered that thirty-question meme, with the questions hiding. is there a point to this meme's arrangement? probably not; perhaps it's to reinforce an in-group and an out-group. hmmm. that sucks. but i'm playing by the rules, so i'll shut up.

Hm, you're the second -- or is that third? -- to put me at 22. It's like I have a reputation or something.

i thought of a couple of places for you and realized i'd get a one-word response: behave.
it was self-protection!

HAHA, love it, and well put.

But I think you know, I rarely behave...

Yeah, it's hard when the English lyric has absolutely nothing to do with the original (in this case Spanish).

i haven't seen an english translation, but i recall "eres tu" somehow became "touch the wind" (or, in the unfortunate mocedades english recording, "toach thay weend").

enjoy the heat, but don't get burned.

It's Mad Madam Mim's song in the Disney cartoon, The Sword in the Stone. I'm just doing my usual pointless saucy wench shtick...

well... few do saucy wench as well as you do!
i mask my cinematographic vulgarity by reminding you that at least [livejournal.com profile] i_f_f got the reference (though i do recall seeing the sword in the stone, about 100 years ago).

I goofed--it's actually Merlin's song! but Mim is really more my muse...

What am I not getting here? Is there an ACTUAL list of questions or is this just some sort of strange numerical listing of the people from whom you wish to experience tiny deaths?

I'm confused.

that said, you have an immense number of balls in the air. it staggers me to think about it, truly.

From: [identity profile] pectopah.livejournal.com
Yeah, and not the fun kind of balls, either.

One becomes used to these things after a while. I am really aware of that sometimes. Am I a better person for it? I'm not sure, but I am aware of my strength in ways I didn't know. Thus endeth the Word of Oprah.

Date: 2008-09-11 08:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bix02138.livejournal.com
i suspect you are a better person, albeit in ways not readily observable to you in the midst of it all.

the book of oprah, a deuterocanonical book if ever there was one. of course, there are those who prefer povitch and/or i-iv springer, but they're clearly heretics.

True, then there are the Marthans. Ric's mother used to quote from Martha on a fairly regular basis. That has stopped and now she's moved on to Oprah.

Date: 2008-09-11 08:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bix02138.livejournal.com
there's something in that, some marker which takes a white woman from one true path to another. a fabulous thesis awaits.

From: [identity profile] pectopah.livejournal.com
In Denise's case, it was prison. Martha's troubles definitely minimized the impact of her message. What she said, still holds, though and her Martha Stewart Everyday at Kmart is what I go for. Also, Martha didn't give away cars or send a hit out on Jonathan Franzen or James Frey.

Date: 2008-09-19 08:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bix02138.livejournal.com
but prison shouldn't have an effect on martha's veracity on the home front (other than, perhaps, an interest in horizontal stripes). funny, i find martha much less obnoxious than oprah (not that i'm a fan, per se, of ms stewart).

Date: 2008-09-19 08:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] pectopah.livejournal.com
Absolutely true, but since when does that matter? Martha is much more toned down now. Oprah is, arguably, one of the most important opinion makers in North America, which adds to the obnoxious. At the end of the day, I really don't care one way or the other.

If I watch a home show, I watch the Extra Super Gay Steven and Chris on CBC. They give good advice, are over the top queeny, but aren't parodies either.

the closest i come to watching a home show is ... uh ... mad men. that betty draper may be a loon, but she keeps a smart 1962 home.
