i nearly wrecked when i came over the rise and saw that grain elevator; it looked so much to me like a ship. and that completely dovetailed with my sense of the palouse as a sea of land, the hills as oceanic swells.

i really wanted to hit the backroads, but ran out of time. i'd like to take a week there and take the roads in the roughly 20 miles between 195 (washington) and 95 (idaho).

yeah, and there's the transition—east of 95—from the naturally treeless palouse to the forested foothills of the rockies. i'd like to hit eastern latah county, and do harvard, princeton, potlatch, deary and bovill. there's huge opportunity (and a few towns in steep decline) throughout the region.
