all i got in the settlement was this lousy poem

i said i put my mother
in a box, but
she is in the gulf of mexico,
small particles, feathery in the sky,
subsumed in the brine.
i like to think she came ashore with katrina,
as surely she did.

you, i told you
i'll put you in a box, like her
i'll lose sight of your face, forget
your laugh, that exhalation of excitement.
you'll be in there with her,
moldering in my memory
if not in the ground.

you won't come ashore in a storm,
you went out on one.
your future is elsewhere,
apart from mine,
somehow existing in the same time and space
but apart.

Beautiful but sad words.

I wish you the consolation of philosophy and the comfort of knowing that better days are to come.

hugs, Shimmer

My heart aches reading this. I dare not think of the suffering that could generate it: than rage, the torment, the gut wrenching sorrow. And yet... such beauty.

but it is both beautiful and sad. I hope you're not going through something bad. I miss seeing your posts. Hug.
