[livejournal.com profile] toddpage and i will be in manhattan this weekend, and thought a bite of dinner with lj pals might be just the thing for friday evening. it's short notice, we know, but the trip just came together.

if you're around and would like to join us for a meal please reply to this post (or the one just like it in his journal). we're aiming for 7 p.m., though that might be negotiable, and we'd like to do it in manhattan.

we haven't decided on a place to eat yet; we tend to like food which isn't too fussy, has vegetarian options and is reasonably-priced... all while being tasty and prepared with care. any suggestions?

Spice if a good place if you guys would like some Thai food. Although it is probably not good for a big party. http://www.spicethainyc.com/spice/

can we meet?

I'd love to join you at dinner wherever that is. But I'd really like to take you out and visit properly. Group meet at a restaurant is often just that: group meet. I'd really like to do a one-on-one with the 2 of you, if possible. Because it's Mr. Bix :-)

that may be possible, but the schedule is a bit unclear at present (somewhat like a puzzle); the group meet will, i am sure, be somewhat intimate (based on the responses thus far), and i definitely would like to do more one-on-one (or, rather, one-on-two).

any resto suggestions for the group meet?

resto suggestions: TimeOut NY is always a good guide however cliche. I say this because I don't know everyone's taste who's attending? Personally, I think Chelsea is way tired for eating. Lower East side or 9 Ave / Hell's Kitchen have much fresher picks - esp. 9 Ave. These are 2 old but always reliable venues in the area that have good food, fun and easy atmosphere and reasonable prices:
. Mee (chinese)
. Halo-Berlin (german)
. Italian abound
Plus, there are a couple of really cute very intimate new places whose names I forgot :-( but I know where they are. 9 Ave is also a good area if people wanna go out later to the bars: The Ritz is around the corner, although 9 Ave Saloon is closed. But there are plenty of stuff in the area and it's only a bus/cab hop a little higher toward the upper west side where there are more bars. Or, back down to Chelsea and The Eagle...etc...

I look forward to meeting you at long last, Bixie :-)

thanks!

this is mostly about meeting and eating, so it probably won't be too fabulous (though i really want to visit blossom (http://www.blossomnyc.com/) at another time...). [livejournal.com profile] leafshimmer reminded me of telephone (http://telebar.com/index.html), which may fit the bill nicely (decent food, space and a good (if not spectacular) collection of beers.

i look forward to meeting your iconoclastic self, as well.

the Veggan factor

Sorry, is veggan important? I didn't realize this until you mentioned it. Some people may be veggans in the fold, no? I'm a carnivore including crickets but stopping at chimp's brains :-(

I know Blossom. It's ok. There are cheaper places that offer the same.

I don't know Telephone but it sounds real good. I vote for this one!

You know NYC well enough to stay clear of the fusion rip-offs that serve appetizer-size entrees for $20.00, right? I loathe those! Like Beige. I'm not gourmet-obssessed but I do take eating seriously enough to be offended by this type of places.

Don't forget Telephone down in the Village, where we had lunch with my Minoan buddies. The Veg Shepherd's pie is a winter favorite and there are plenty of options for the omnivores.
